Back in the late 1980's and early 1990's, when there were only three, four or five American Girls in the American Girl Collection, Pleasant Company offered several special items that went along with the American Girl dolls, outfits and doll accessories. Listed below are these special items that have been, and in some cases still are, available from Pleasant Company. Pictures and descriptions are given for each, and most include the years when they were first introduced and when they were retired. General American Girl Items

Back in the late 1980's and early 1990's, when there were only three, four or five American Girls in the American Girl Collection, Pleasant Company offered several special items that went along with the American Girl dolls, outfits and doll accessories. These special items were both historical in nature and modern, and included the Doll Travel Basket, Book slip cases, Family Album, Puzzles, Trading Cards, Computer CD-ROMs and more.

A special category of these special items were the twelve items that comprised the Pastimes Subscription which became available in 1991. These featured twelve different pastimes that gave young girls a chance to experience the same activities and amusements that entertained Samantha, Molly and Kirsten long ago. In 1991, one could buy a one-year subscription to all of the activity books and craft kits or a six-month subscription to either just the six activity books or just the six craft kits. These would then arrive once a month. The one-year subscription was $192 or $16 per month, a six-month subscription to the activity books was $84 or $14 per month and a six-month subscription to the craft kits was $108 or $18 per month. Years later, when there were more American Girls in the Collection, each doll was given her own Pastimes set which including a Theater Kit, Paper Dolls, Craft Book and Cook Book.

American Girl Items from Hallmark

The Hallmark Corporation became associated with Pleasant Company around 2000 and the natural pairing has been successful to both parties. The Hallmark line of American Girl items began in 2001 with the offering of Keepsake figurines for each of the seven girls at the time. Over the past few years Hallmark added to each girl's collection by introducing such items as Christmas tree ornaments, charms, pet charms, story boxes, ink pens, bookmarks, greeting cards, sticker sets, mini framed pictures and bookends.

For some of the historic American Girls, Hallmark also offered a ceramic bank or trinket box and sometimes such life-sized items as purses, tea sets, or cocoa mugs. Most recently, water globes were offered for several of the girls. These were musical with the exception of Kaya's water globe.

Hallmark also introduced several special American Girl-themed items that featured all the girls such as the cookie tins, stamp set, three-ring binder and the friendship book.

Major League Baseball Giveaways

Beginning in 2002, Pleasant Company began producing promotional items to be given free to girl attendees of special Major League Baseball games played at Chicago's Wrigley Field and New York's Yankee Stadium. These items were special American Girl doll-sized versions of Major League uniform jerseys, jackets and ball caps. Through 2006, these continued to be given away, and girls interested in obtaining them should try to be in the right city (New York, Chicago or Cincinnati) at the right time and go to the right ball game. The table below lists the dates and places in the past and future that these AG girl items have been and will be given away. These items can usually be obtained on Ebay within a week or so of each special giveaway event. Upcoming events are shown in bold face.

For the 2007 Major League Baseball season, only the Chicago Cubs have announced American Girl giveaways. Sadly, it seems that this delightful chapter in special American Girl items is coming to a close.

2007 Giveaways

Chicago Cubs Road Uniform 2007 (Ballgame Giveaway) The American Girl Doll-Sized Chicago Cubs Road Uniform and Cap was a promotion at Wrigley Field on August 5, 2007 when the Cubs played the New York Mets. The doll outfits were only given out to the first 5,000 girls, and they instantly ran out making this a very rare and hard to come by Cubbie Promo. The uniform consisted of a jersey and pants with elastic at the ankles. It came in a specially marked bag along with a commemorative card.

2006 Giveaways

	New York Yankees Jacket & Cap 2006 (Ballgame Giveaway) The American Girl Doll-Sized New York Yankees warm up jacket and Cap was a promotion at Yankee Stadium on September 30, 2006 when the Yankees played the Toronto Blue Jays. The doll outfits were only given out to the first 16,000 girls. It came in its own original American Girl bag.

	New York Yankees Uniform & Cap 2005 (Ballgame Giveaway) The American Girl Doll-Sized New York Yankees Home Uniform and Cap was a promotion at Yankee Stadium on August 28, 2005 when the Yankees played the Kansas City Royals. The doll outfits were only given out to the first 18,000 girls. The uniform consisted of a grey jersey and pants with elastic at the ankles. The jersey has a blue "NEW YORK" on the front and the American Girl Logo on the back in red. It came in its own original American Girl bag.

The doll outfits were only given out to the first 5,000 girls, and they quickly ran out. The giveaway was the Reds jersey and cap that is also available as part of Kit's Red's Fan Outfit. It came in a specially marked bag.

2003 Giveaways

New York Yankees Jacket & Cap 2003 (Ballgame Giveaway) The American Girl Doll-Sized New York Yankees Baseball Jacket and Cap was a promotion at Yankee Stadium on August 20, 2003 when Kansas City took on the Yankees. They were only given out to the first 10,000 girls, and they instantly ran out making this a very rare and hard to come by Yankees Promo. The jacket is blue satin with the white Yankees logo on the front and the American Girl Logo on the back of the jacket as well as the back of the hat. The jacket even has a quilted lining. It came in its own original American Girl bag that says Yankee Give Away Jacket.

Chicago Cubs Jersey & Cap 2003 (Ballgame Giveaway) Exclusive limited-edition American Girl Doll-Sized Chicago Cubs Alternate Uniform Jersey & Cap was a promotion at Chicago's Wrigley Field on June 26, 2003 when the Cubs played the visiting Milwaukee Brewers. These special little outfits were only given out to the first 5,000 girls 14 and under and came in a specially marked bag along with a commemorative card.

2002 Giveaway

Chicago Cubs Jacket & Cap 2002 (Ballgame Giveaway) The American Girl Doll-Sized Chicago Cubs Baseball Jacket and Cap was a promotion at Wrigley Field on July 16, 2002 when the Cubs played the visiting Atlanta Braves. The jacket is blue satin with the round Cubs logo on the front and the American Girl Logo on the back of the jacket as well as the back of the hat.

AG Place and other Exclusive Items

In 1998, Pleasant Company opened American Girl Place a three-level complex in Chicago at 111 East Chicago Avenue. American Girl Place - Chicago featured displays of each doll and their their items, historical exhibits, a photo studio, a doll hair salon, a fully stocked bookstore, a musical revue, and a charming cafe where girls can eat with their dolls beside them in special seats served from miniature china. In November 2003, the four-story American Girl Place - New York opened on 609 Fifth Avenue at 49th Street. Most recently, the newest AG Place opened on April 22nd, 2006 at 189 The Grove Drive, Suite F-10 in Los Angeles, California.

These AG Places have occasionally offered items that were available only at the AG Place store and not online or in catalogs. These include the obligatory t-shirts, jackets, caps and sweatshirts as well as postcards and other small items. The AG place exclusive items most of note are the special doll outfits and doll accessories such as the AG Place Revue Tap Dance Outfit, Circle of Friends Finale Outfit and 2003 Golden Holiday Dress. These are described and shown in this section.

	AG Place Circle of Friends Jitter Bug Outfit (AG Place Chicago Only) This is a doll size outfit that is similar to ones worn in "Circle of Friends - An American Girls Musical." The outfit is only available at the American Girl Place Chicago. The outfit includes a purple and white satin pleated skirt jumper attached to a white satin blouse underneath. It also has white bobby socks, a pair of black and white saddle shoes, and a red headband with white stars and sparkling gems on it.
	AG Place Revue Tap Dance Outfit (AG Place Only) This is a doll size replica of the outfit that two girls wore in performances of the Musical Revue show at the American Girl Place. The outfit includes a beautiful white satin dress with a shiny red and blue sequin trim, a pair of little red tap shoes (which actually have the metal taps on the bottom), a pair of socks and a red head piece with three stars and an elastic band.
	AG Place Revue White Overalls (AG Place Only) This is a doll size replica of the outfit that was worn by several girls in performances of the Musical Revue show at the American Girl Place. The outfit includes a pair of white overalls with a star on the chest, a long sleeve white shirt, and a pair of white shoes and white socks.
	Golden Holiday Dress (AG Place & Online Only) This gorgeous outfit featured Tights, Golden slippers, Hair clips, a Faux Pearl-and-Gemstone Necklace & Rhinestone Stick-on Earrings. Originally, the Golden Holiday Dress was only available at AG Place. However, unexpectedly high demand for the regular 2003 Holiday outfit, the Radiant Rhinestone outfit, available in catalogs and online, caused it to sell out before the holiday season was over. This prompted Pleasant Company to offer the Golden Holiday Dress online so that young girls could still get a holiday doll dress in their stockings come Christmas morning. The Golden Holiday dress is now retired.
	Circle of Friends Finale Outfit (AG Place Only) This is a doll size replica of the outfits worn by performers in the Circle of Friends Musical Revue show at the American Girl Place. The outfit includes a White Brushed Cotton Pants with purple stitching, a Purple Bow on the front waistband and "AG" on the back pocket, a Magenta Top with purple long sleeves and a velcro closure & White Sneakers with the AG Logo on the bottom.

American Girl Club Exclusives

In 2004, the New AG Club was launched. Club members could take part in special activities, earn Stars, collect Treasures, and send messages to new friends online. As part of the membership, girls received a charm bracelet with a Club charm and a detailed Girl's Guide to help them get started. Moms received a Mom's Manual describing safety features and site navigation, and a $10 coupon for their next American Girl purchase. Throughout the year, members also had access to Club-exclusive items and sneak previews of select American Girl products.

In addition to the several activities and the online meeting place afforded to club members, certain items were available exclusively to AG Club members. These are shown below.

Sadly, the AG Club was closed, with its last day being August 15th, 2006.
